IF THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR
You’re Not Overreacting. Your Alarm System Is Stuck On.
You’ve tried the SSRIs. Maybe a benzo for the really bad days. Therapy, breathing apps, the whole list. And your brain still runs threat-detection on a quiet Tuesday afternoon like something’s chasing you.
That’s not a willpower problem. When anxiety goes chronic, the amygdala (your brain’s smoke alarm) gets stuck in the on position, and the part of your brain that’s supposed to say “we’re fine” stops getting through. Most anxiety meds manage the smoke. They don’t reset the alarm.
They’re slow
SSRIs and SNRIs can take 6 to 8 weeks to reach therapeutic levels. When you’re barely getting through the day, two months is a long time to wait.
They can create new problems
Benzos like Xanax or Klonopin work fast but carry real dependency risk and cognitive fog with long-term use.
They often only half-work
A lot of people land at a 30 to 50% symptom reduction and call it “as good as it gets.” It isn’t.
They treat the surface
Most anxiety meds manage symptoms day to day. They don’t touch the neural patterns keeping the cycle running.
THE MECHANISM
How IV Ketamine Calms Anxiety at the Brain Level
Ketamine doesn’t work on serotonin like most anxiety meds. It works on glutamate and your NMDA receptors, which kick off neuroplasticity: your brain’s ability to build new wiring. In plain terms, the worn grooves that keep you locked in fear can actually start to loosen.
And for a stretch after each infusion, your brain enters a window where it’s unusually open to change. That window is where the real work happens, which is exactly why we don’t just hand you an infusion and wave goodbye.
It targets the root system
By acting on glutamate and NMDA receptors, ketamine works on the circuitry behind chronic fear, not just the symptoms on top of it.
It opens a neuroplasticity window
For days after each infusion your brain is primed to form new patterns. Handled well, that’s where lasting change gets built.
It works fast
Many patients notice a real shift within 24 to 72 hours of the first infusion, not weeks later.
It’s a reset, not sedation
This isn’t about numbing out or getting high in a recliner. It’s a genuine neurological reset you can build on.
WHAT WE TREAT
Types of Anxiety We Treat
Generalized Anxiety (GAD)
Chronic, all-day worry with no off switch. Ketamine helps quiet the overactive patterns so your rational brain can get a word in.
Panic Disorder
Sudden surges of fear, racing heart, that out-of-nowhere sense of doom. Ketamine can help recalibrate the hair-trigger response driving them.
Social Anxiety
The deep fear of being judged that talk therapy alone often can’t budge. The neuroplasticity window helps loosen those entrenched patterns.
OCD
Intrusive thoughts and the compulsions that follow. Ketamine’s effect on glutamate targets circuitry standard meds frequently miss.
Anxiety rooted in trauma? See our PTSD treatment page. Anxiety riding shotgun with depression? One of ketamine’s real strengths is addressing both at the same time.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What Anxiety Treatment Actually Looks Like
1. Free consult
A real conversation, not a five-minute screening. We review your history, meds, and goals to see if IV ketamine is a fit.
2. Your protocol
Most anxiety patients do 6 infusions over 2 to 3 weeks. Each session runs about 40 minutes in a private, quiet room.
3. Monitored throughout
Dr. Dee Bonney and the clinical team watch your vitals from start to finish. Safety and comfort, every time.
4. Integration support
We help you use the neuroplasticity window between and after sessions, so the changes turn into real life, not a temporary lift.
AlphaOmega Wellness is physician-led and family-owned, founded by Dr. Dee Bonney, MD and Megan Bonney, PMHNP-BC. We accept HSA and FSA, offer first-responder and veteran discounts, and every new patient starts with a free consult.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK
Anxiety + IV Ketamine: Your Questions
Can IV ketamine really help with anxiety?
Yes. A growing body of clinical research supports ketamine for anxiety disorders, especially generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and anxiety that travels with depression or PTSD. Many people who didn’t respond to SSRIs, SNRIs, or benzos find meaningful, lasting relief.
How is it different from SSRIs or benzos?
SSRIs take weeks and don’t work for everyone. Benzos are fast but carry dependency risk and don’t change anything long-term. IV ketamine targets glutamate and NMDA receptors to promote neuroplasticity, so the brain can build new, healthier pathways, often with a noticeable shift within hours.
How many infusions will I need?
The typical protocol is six infusions over three to four weeks. Many people notice a difference within the first two or three. Some benefit from occasional maintenance boosters. We personalize the plan to how you respond.
Will I feel sedated afterward?
During the infusion you’ll feel a mild dreamlike, dissociative state that fades within 30 to 60 minutes after it ends. You’ll need a driver home and should take it easy that day. Most people feel clear and back to normal by the next morning.
Is it safe?
Yes. Every patient is screened first, vitals are monitored throughout each infusion, and the clinical team is present start to finish.
How much does it cost?
It depends on your personalized plan. We accept HSA and FSA and offer flexible payment options. The free consult is the best place to get real numbers. See also our financing options.
Do you treat patients from outside Indianapolis?
Absolutely. Patients come from Greenwood, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Avon, Brownsburg, Plainfield, Mooresville, Southport, Bargersville, and across Central Indiana. Our Greenwood clinic is easy to reach from I-65.
