Discover how ketamine therapy can break the cycle and help you reclaim your mental health.
What IV ketamine actually does
Most antidepressants work on serotonin. You take one daily and wait four to six weeks to find out if it was the right one. If it was not, you start over.
Ketamine works somewhere else entirely.
Where it works
On glutamate, the brain’s main excitatory network, not on serotonin.
Why that matters
The research points to a window where your brain forms new connections more readily than usual.
How fast
Relief can arrive in hours or days instead of four to six weeks.
The catch
The window closes. Keeping it open is what our integration program is for.
One thing we will say that a sales page will not. For depression, ketamine is used off label. It has been FDA approved as an anesthetic since 1970, and using it for depression means prescribing outside that original label. Ordinary medicine, not a loophole, but you should hear it from us.
Who this is for, and who it is not
People come to us after a long stretch of things not working. Several medications, often years, sometimes therapy that helped them understand it without lifting it.
- Treatment-resistant depression — at least two medications that did not work. The single most common reason people call us.
- Depression — including the functional, invisible kind you have been carrying to work every day.
- Anxiety — especially when it runs alongside depression rather than on its own.
- PTSD — including first responders and veterans. We came out of the emergency department, so this is not an abstraction to us.
Not everyone is a candidate. Some reasons are medical, some are about timing. Screening for that is what the free consult is for. If it is not a fit, we will say so and tell you what we would look at instead.
Understanding Ketamine Therapy for Depression, PTSD, and Anxiety
Step 1
Targeting the Root
Ketamine therapy focuses on rewiring brain pathways to address treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Step 2
Fast-Acting Relief
Unlike traditional treatments, ketamine provides rapid symptom relief, often within hours or days.
Step 3
Long-Term Benefits
By promoting neuroplasticity, ketamine helps break negative thought patterns, supporting sustained mental health improvement.
Initial consultation
We go through your history and talk about whether ketamine fits. Nothing gets scheduled until that is done, and if it is not the right fit, we say so.
Treatment sessions
About 45 minutes in a quiet room, with someone in the office the whole time. Most people are back to their day the same afternoon. What a session is like.
Integration
The weeks after the infusion matter as much as the infusion. We give you a plan for what to do in between so the gains actually hold.
What an infusion actually feels like
Strange. Usually not scary.
The room
A recliner in a private room, a blanket, an eye mask and music. About forty minutes.
What you notice
You stay awake. Time gets loose. Some people cry, some see color and movement. Most feel pleasantly far away, like the volume got turned down.
Coming back
It wears off within about twenty minutes of the drip ending. You will be tired and a little unsteady, so someone else drives you home.
What it is not
A party, a blackout, or a personality transplant.
Is IV ketamine safe?
Ketamine has been used in medicine since 1970, most often as an anesthetic, at doses far higher than anything used for depression. What it does do, briefly, is affect blood pressure, heart rate, perception and coordination. That is exactly why it belongs in an office with monitoring rather than at a kitchen table.
- Common side effects — nausea, dizziness, dissociation, blurred vision, fatigue, briefly elevated blood pressure. Most fade within an hour of the infusion ending.
- Who we screen out — certain cardiac histories, uncontrolled blood pressure, pregnancy and some psychiatric histories. Screening is a real part of the consult, not a formality.
- Someone is with you the whole time — blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen are monitored, and every member of our staff is trained in psychedelic trip sitting, so the person beside you knows what to do when the experience gets big, not just when the numbers do.
- At-home ketamine is a lot less supervised — lozenges mailed to your door are the same medication with far less oversight. Nobody is checking your blood pressure and nobody is in the room if it gets difficult. Dr. Bonney made a video about where unsupervised ketamine can lead, and the full comparison is here.
Is ketamine addictive?
Fair question, and the honest answer has two halves.
The real risk
Ketamine is a controlled substance and does carry misuse potential. That risk is tied to unsupervised, frequent, self-directed use, where a person controls their own supply and dose.
Why this is different
You never handle the medication and nothing goes home with you. A physician sets the dose, it is given through an IV in our office, and the series is finite.
If you have a history with substances, say so at the consult. It is not automatically disqualifying, and it does change what we would recommend.
The protocol, step by step
This is the part most clinics summarize in three bullets. Here is the whole thing.
- A full evaluation. Medical and mental health history, a medication review, what you have already tried and how you responded, symptoms measured with standardized screening tools, and a check for anything that would make ketamine the wrong call. Then informed consent, an actual conversation about risks and what to expect, not a signature on a clipboard.
- Dosing that follows published standards, not gut feeling. We start with weight-based dosing, then adjust across the series based on how you respond and what you tolerate. We follow the ASKP3 consensus guidelines, the national standards for IV ketamine set by the American Society of Ketamine Physicians, Psychotherapists and Practitioners. Plenty of clinics dose on instinct. We do not.
- An induction series of six, not a single infusion. Six IV infusions, usually over two to three weeks, each about forty minutes. The neuroplastic changes are cumulative. One infusion can create relief. A series is what creates change.
- Infusion days you are never left alone on. Baseline vitals and a symptom check, IV placement by trained medical staff, continuous monitoring, provider oversight on site, and a recovery period before you go home. This is not self-administered care, and you will need a ride.
- Tracking between infusions, not just at the end. Your response is measured as you go, and the plan moves with it.
- Integration, because the window closes. Ketamine opens something up. What you do next decides what it turns into. Every patient is supported through our ROOT framework: regulating the nervous system, addressing the physical barriers in the way, keeping the window open, and doing the work of changing patterns that are not serving you. Ketamine used in isolation is half a treatment.
- An honest answer about what comes next. After the induction series we look at your symptom scores, your function, and how stable the response is, then decide whether maintenance infusions make sense and how far apart. Some people need occasional boosters. Some do not. There is no forever schedule here.
What this is not. Not at-home ketamine, not self-directed dosing, not a spa treatment, and not a one-visit fix.
What Our Clients Say
“One of the things I noticed is my sleep is much better and my mental state waking up… the depressive mindset is that I don’t want to go to sleep because I want to stay asleep and then not get up. Now, that depressive mindset is completely gone.”
– CC
“You’ve changed my life.
I Used to wake up and dread going to work out and everything seemed like a struggle. I would make myself do stuff. Not anymore…”
– ML
“I’ve been on a journey to see what could make me better, and I think ketamine was the thing I needed first. I’m less taken down by the hard things. Like life throws you punches, but it doesn’t take me all the way out… I don’t feel like I’m spiraling any more. I have more power to work though.”
– TN
